Ethics

I take ethics seriously as  photographer.  Whether I am working with a model or an animal, photographing a landscape or a political rally. I always respect the people, the environment and the law.

People: When working with people I always respect the limits they want to work to. You will never find me pushing or goading people into a situation that makes them uncomfortable.  Apart from being unpleasant and unethical, it ruins the rapport which is so important for strong, resonant images.

Children: Safety of children is a top priority for me.  I never shoot without parent/guardian consent and will never use images in my promotional work without explicit written permission.

Professional models: I use professional models for my own creative endeavours and for my portfolio. Some images on this site are of members of the public, others are professional models.  All people on this site have given express written permission for the use of their images, unless they are part of a crowd or unrecognisable.

Wildlife: Sometimes I photograph animals in captivity.  I am always honest about this and avoid organisations that do not show high standards of animal welfare.  When shooting in the wild, I do not use bait or artificial traps or lures to get the shot.  Patience and observation of  the animals are my techniques and  I try my best not to disturb their natural behaviour.  If an animal shows a change in behaviour due to my presence, it means we are too close together and I will move away to avoid unnecessary human interference.

Corporate sponsorship: I am not paid by any company to promote their products or services and any recommendations are impartial and based on my own experience.

Copyright: All images on this site are my own work (with one exception) and are all rights reserved. Please contact me if you wish to use any of them for any purpose.  My rates are reasonable and I have been known to grant copyright licences free of charge depending on the use. Thank you.
